ARC’s classroom programming leverages the innate connection between children and animals to teach kindness and empathy. If you’re in the tri-state area, we offer in-person classroom workshops. For other locales, our downloadable lesson-plans can be used anywhere.
If you’re in the tri-state area, we can come to your classroom—with or without four-legged friends in tow!
Our workshops draw from extensive research that supports the link between teaching empathy and fostering resilience and pro-social behavior in children. Research shows that empathetic children are more socially competent than their peers, and tend to be more resilient, and better able to handle stress and challenging situations. Just like we teach young children to read and write, we can teach them empathy through humane education.
ARC’s comprehensive workshops provide a roadmap to give children in any school an introduction to empathetic thinking, laying the foundation to kinder classrooms, less bullying, more cooperation and an increased ability to articulate feelings.
APPLY FOR A WORKSHOP AT YOUR SCHOOLARC lesson plans are easy for you to use in your classrooms, or we can visit and do a workshop, depending on what works best for your school. Our programs teach children in grades K-3 to think critically about the feelings of others, and how our actions impact those around us. By placing the focus on animals, and not themselves or each other, ARC’s workshops offer a fun and easy way for children to engage in empathetic thinking.
Request a Lesson PlanARC offers opportunities for high school students through our ARC Ambassadors program, partnering students with local shelters to design, market and promote the adoption process for individual animals. This partnership helps local rescues save more animals, and provides high school students with invaluable real-life, compassion-focused business skills.
